Hey its Lauren Hrab here, and I am so excited to talk about where I am going this weekend! There are so many events happening on this second weekend of June, it was hard to fit it all into my days.
My first stop this Saturday, I am making the trek to Big Bam Ski Hill where Vertical SLAM Ultimate Challenge is taking place from 7am to 7pm. There are runs for every person with a 5km, 10km, and 2.3km dash for children and families to join. If a run isn’t enough they also are offering an obstacle course!
After a nice morning run I am heading to the World Fair which is taking place in the green space on 100th Ave and 100th St. This event is happening from 11am to 2pm and I am so excited to see everything that is being offered. This event was created by the Fort St. John League of United Youths and SD60 SWIS Program.
By mid afternoon on June 9th I should be heading to the Cultural Centre where the Art Market and Big Print Day is being held. This afternoon is part of the Bright Nights In June event that has events happening all weekend. From 10am to 2pm we will be creating large-scale relief prints which will be printed using a road roller. At the Art market inside there will be Printmakers, Flying Colors, Quilters Guild, Spinners, Weavers, and a Potters Guild. This event sounds like so much fun and right up my alley, I am so excited to attend.
To finish my day off on a high note I plan on winding down while listening to a book reading at the Fort St. John Museum. Anne Callison’s book called “A Century in the North Peace” will be read aloud, from 3pm to 4:30pm. The people in the north have seen many changes from the trapline to the Alaska Highway, from farming to the oil boom. The time I have lived in Fort St. John is just a blip on the radar compared to Anne’s adventures and I like to call myself a history buff so I am very excited to listen to this story.
So after a busy Saturday I plan on having a slower paced Sunday, while attending the Browns Social House Shriners Family Day. The event is running from 10am to 6pm, all the funds raised are going to Gizeh Shriners Child Care Service Society. They help children with orthopedic conditions, burns, and cleft lip/pallete. I am so excited to attend and help raise money for a good cause.
Well if you are looking for something to do this weekend here are just some of the events that are going on, you can always come join me and I will have some prizes to hand out! Plus I like to think I’m a fun person to talk to!
That’s all for now,
