You know the calls, you pick up and some automated voice says you’ve been targeted by the CRA, or that you’ve won an amazing prize from Westjet, or you’ve been hired for an awesome work from home job that’s gonna make you rich…but you have to pay them first.
Ya we’ve all got those calls.
and most of us hang up and laugh or scoff at the ridiculousness of it all.
but some people…some people bite hard!!!
The better business bureau reported that Canadians were scammed out of over $90 million in 2016.
through scams just like the ones above.
or because they got cat-fished by some weirdo on Plenty of fish or Tinder who, only weeks after meeting them, needs to borrow $1,000..
That’s gotta seem fishy, no? (Sorry for the pun)
I mean these scams aren’t very inventive. they aren’t very good and yet, they still seem to work on a few people every time a new one comes out…
It seems weird to me, and sad, that a whole industry can exist based fully on gullible, lonely people.
because that’s who they try to target.
I just wonder how these are still a thing.
how have we not learned that the CRA won’t call you about your taxes, or that Westjet doesn’t give away free stuff, or that you shouldn’t have to pay your employer in order to start a job..
Please dont fall for this crap ! Be careful !
