Earls.67 is a new restaurant that just opened this past weekend in Calgary at the Stephen Avenue Mall. In an effort to properly distribute compensation, they have eliminated tipping. Instead, customers bills will include a 16% “hospitality charge”. The money generated from these charges will be distributed evenly to to the servers, bartenders and kitchen staff. This will take pressure from the patrons who may feel that they’re not tipping enough, too much, etc. Also, it adds a sense of community among the staff as at the end of the day they are all making the same amount of gratuity. So it eliminates that “every man for himself” type of attitude which can often occur in the restaurant industry.
